Interested in changing things up a bit and using plasti dip to give your car some new life? In this tutorial, I show how to plasti dip the badges on your car. This method can be used to put plasti dip on just about anything you want.
What's great about plasti dip is that it's not permanent like paint, which makes the application process super easy. Just tape off a section around the emblems or badges you want to plastidip, spray a few coats on, and peel it off where you don't want it! It really is that simple.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
1. Can of Plasti Dip - http://bit.ly/PlastiDipCan
2. Painter's Tape - http://bit.ly/PaintersTape
3. Newspapers
4. An afternoon
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Tape around the area you want to apply the plasti dip, leaving about 0.5-1 inch around the desired spot/emblem.
2. Tape newspaper around the area
3. Spray first coat of plasti dip, making sure to spray from all angles if it is an emblem that has surfaces at different angles.
4. Wait 30 minutes
5. Repeat Steps 3-4 for 4-6 more times (for a total of 5-7 coats)
6. Remove newspaper and peel of plasti dip from the areas that you don't want it (e.g. around the emblems)
7. You're done!
TIPS
1. Make quick, swift, sprays. Do NOT spray heavy coats or the plasti dip will run and create an unsmooth surface. Don't worry if you don't get complete coverage on every coat.
2. For each coat, spray at all necessary angles. For my badges, I sprayed from the left, right, top and bottom on every coat.
3. Get coverage on the entire exposed area. If you don't get coverage on the areas you will need to peel off, you will have a harder time.
4. Don't spray on a windy day and start with enough time before the sun goes down.
5. When peeling off the plasti dip from the areas you don't want it, pull closer to parallel with the surface so that the seems break cleanly.
6. Try to peel off as much as you can in the first go.
7. Use a toothpick to get small areas off.
