Instagram Stories - The End of Snapchat? + How to use
What is going on guys Apple Fox here and as you know Instagram had an update couple days ago, and in this update there was a brand new feature introduced, at least for Instagram. It’s called Instagram stories and now you surely know what I mean. I don’t usually make this kind of videos because when some major apps get updated it’s often like, some small hidden things get changed or just some bugs are removed, so it’s nothing to talk about. But this time it’s different.
Instagram stories is a feature stolen from Snapchat, and the stories are the basic of Snapchat, this is how the application works so if Instagram takes control of it does it mean that Snapchat won’t be used anymore?
There were some attempts to blow Snapchat away with many apps like Clipchat which failed, Content guard developer created Yovo which failed and also Facebook wanted to create a competitor for Snapchat with Slingshot which also failed.
All of these apps failed because of a reason. And the reason is that nobody actually wants to download something new if it’s not something revolutionary. Snapchat became so successful because it was the first time when this kind of communication and chat was introduced and it just was something new and everyone wanted to try it out. Nobody wants to have one more app on their homescreen that does the same thing as Snapchat, just looking a little different.
But to use Instagram stories you don’t have to download another app, everything is happening in the app we all have and love and this is how Instagram wants to destroy Snapchat.
As always people instantly react to the new things going on in the world and many people posted tweets about their idea about it. Many people actually enjoy it but there are also lots of people who just don’t get the point of this. I mean I agree with that because this is not what Instagram is for.
So let’s get to part where I’m showing you how it works. When you open up Instagram, you of course have the feed with pictures of all of the people you follow. But in the upper side of your screen you can see there is a new circle with Instagram logo. So this is actually the Instagram Story of Instagram where an example of a Story is shown to you.
In the upper left corner there is a plus icon and if you click it, you get to the section where you can make your own story.
It looks really similar to Snapchat in every way so there’s no reason to doubt that Instagram stole this feature. But anyway you can just click on this big white button here to capture a photo or just hold on to it to start recording a video that can be long up to 10 seconds.
Once you have your photo captured you can add text to it. Unlike in Snapchat you can add as much text as you want, so you’re not limited to just 2 rows.
There’s also an option to markup on the photo or video. You’ve got three different pens to choose from and also down here you have all of the possible colors.
When you swipe down you can also upload pictures from your camera roll but only those which are not older than 24 hours, but it’s really similar to memories feature in Snapchat.
Your followers can of course see your story for 24 hours but if your account is public anyone can see it but you can check out who watched your Instagram Story.
You can also take a look at someones story even though you’re not following them. If you visit their profile, you can just click on their profile Picture to see their story if there’s the colorful ring around it meaning they created a story in past 24 hours and you haven’t checked it yet.
Is Instagram going to replace Snapchat with this new feature? I don’t think so. On the one hand it’s great that there’s something new in Instagram, but everyone is already used to upload this kind of pictures to Snapchat. Instagram is for the best shots, and I would like to have it this way. Except for that in Snapchat there are lots of filters like the dog one which everyone likes and it’s nowhere to be seen on Instagram
So thank you for watching, don’t forget to check out my other videos and also you can leave a like on this video if you enjoyed it. In case you don’t want to miss anything important in the future make sure to hit subscribe button. See you in the next video.
